Speaker Request || Value Proposition & Inquiry

I founded The Bee Girl Organization in 2010.  In the decade since I have worked simultaneously as executive co-director, lead beekeeper, principal scientific investigator, education director, artist, and so much more!  This is the story of most small, grassroots nonprofit leaders; we wear many hats - or in my case beekeeping veils, trucker hats, and up-dos.  My team of staffers, interns, board members, and I have given over 190 classes, workshops, and presentations and reached over 86,000 people (including 15,875 kids) in 6 countries and 23 US states.

Bee Regenerative is a grassroots nonprofit centered on bee habitat conservation through research, regeneration, & education.  Our mission is to create a world where bees enrich our working landscapes and our lives. We envision a future filled with the vibrant hum of biodiverse working landscapes, bursting with healthy bees, coexisting with livestock and wildlife, and where agricultural producers work in harmony with nature to provide for our communities. We Value Conservation, Regeneration, Complexity, Resilience, and Affection.

I am honored to be invited to give a talk to your community!  My time, however, is my most precious resource and myself and the Bee Regenerative board would like to ensure that the impact from our time together is of maximum benefit to our organization and yours!

Please look over the information below, then fill out the form to let us know a bit more about your community and how my time spent with you could be mutually beneficial.  Thank you, and I look forward to learning more about your group!

Bio

Sarah Red-Laird is the founder and co-director of the nonprofit, Bee Regenerative, though she’s been known to the beekeeping community as “Bee Girl” since 2009.  She graduated, with honors, from the University of Montana with a degree in Resource Conservation, focused on community collaboration and environmental policy.  She has formerly served as the director of the American Beekeeping Federation’s “Kids and Bees” program, as president of the Northwest Farmers Union and the Western Apicultural Society, and as a National Farmers Union board member.  She currently spends her time split between her art studio in Southern Oregon and living in her van among the bees, buffalo, cattle, and wine grapes of South Dakota, Montana, Oregon, and California.  She spends her “down” time as a connoisseur of books, cappuccinos, running trails, and food and wine local to wherever she finds herself.  To see her latest projects updates find and follow her on Instagram @sarahbeegirl and subscribe to her newsletter at beeregenerative.org

Adventures in Dirt and Honey

Sarah Red-Laird (aka Bee Girl) envisions a future where kids frolic in pastures of flowers, buzzing with bees, alongside happy, healthy, ecological farmers and ranchers.  Herself and the BGO hive are currently working with a group of collaborators on ranches and vineyards, encompassing over 50,000 acres in the American West to create this reality through their “Regenerative Bee Habitat” projects.

By regenerating soil through increasing plant diversity, incorporating animals, eliminating or reducing tillage, always leaving the soil covered (with plants), and leaving living roots in the soil, farmers, ranchers and vineyard managers are increasing rainfall infiltration and reducing soil erosion, sequestering carbon, and building life beneath the soil surface which increases nutrient density and flavor in our food.

As this movement jettisons ahead, Sarah wants to make sure that bees are completely considered.  In this talk, she will share details on how her focus has transitioned to include not just beekeeping but also soil building, native bees, wildlife coexistence, why this is all so important, and how you can take part in her vision for the future.

This talk is well-suited for beekeeping, farming, and conservation groups, as well as the general pubic. It’s inspirational and informative, but not a data-based “how to” and is best presented as a keynote address, lecture, etc.

How to Teach Kids About Bees

Even though there is plenty of awareness buzzing about the importance of our bees, the vast majority of people are still afraid of them.  If we continue to fear bees – there is little hope in their future conservation!  Join this talk for teachers, home school parents, and other educators, on how to start at the root and dispel the fear of bees by opening young minds up to the wonder of our most precious pollinators!

This is a “train the teacher” style talk on how to start, or grow, your bee-centered educational program. It is well suited for beekeeping groups, environmental educators, and teachers.

How to Teach Kids About Bees with Minecraft: Education Edition

The same presentation as above, in addition to a tour of our M:EE game, “Build with Bees!

This talk is for teachers and homeschool groups who utilize MINECRAFT:EDUCATION EDITION in the classroom.
